NZ joins global Coravin wine guide
Wine-by-the-glass tech pioneer Coravin has launched its digital guide in New Zealand to showcase restaurants, bars and hospitality venues with extensive by-the-glass lists.
New Zealand is the latest addition to The Coravin Guide, which features more than 600 venues worldwide, across cities including London, New York, Sydney and Amsterdam.
The inaugural New Zealand line-up has over 35 venues, including Cassia in Auckland, Odeon in Christchurch, and Rātā in Queenstown.
The free guide, which is also open to venues not using the Coravin system, is designed to help consumers discover new wines, regions and styles by promoting wine-by-the-glass culture.
Coravin says its international research points to growing demand for wine by-the-glass, with more than half of 1,000 independently surveyed wine drinkers from the UK and Australia saying they were ordering more wine by-the-glass than two years earlier.
Trying premium wines without committing to a bottle and exploring different wines were among the key motivations behind the shift.
Coravin says The Guide arrives at an exciting time for New Zealand’s food and wine scene as it enjoys growing global attention following the inaugural MICHELIN Guide New Zealand earlier this year.
Venues are recognised in The Coravin Guide according to the breadth of their wine-by-the-glass offering, including Excellent (20-40 wines by-the-glass), Outstanding (41-60 wines by-the-glass), Exceptional (more than 60 wines by-the-glass) and a “hidden gems” category for “smaller but inspiring” lists.
