Gold for NZ spirits at IWSC

New Zealand whisky, gin, RTD, vodka, and liqueur have achieved top results in the hotly contested International Wine and Spirits Competition, with results just announced in London.

Besos Margarita Habanero from Agave Spirits led the charge with a Gold Outstanding (98 points) for its pre-mixed margarita offering, putting it amongst the top 3% of entries worldwide.

Six other Kiwi spirits received Gold (95-97 points) in the event, which is known for its rigorous judging and high assessment thresholds.

Overall, 33 New Zealand products received medals across Bronze, Silver, Gold and Gold Outstanding.

Besos Margarita Habanero won Gold Outstanding (98 points) at IWSC 2025.

Organisers say that this year’s entries showcased global excellence, with standout spirits in categories including whisk(e)y, gin, brandy, agave, vodka, liqueurs, aperitifs and digestifs. Just 3% of overall entries achieved Gold Outstanding (98-100 points), while 12% were awarded Gold.

  • McKenzie Brothers Heart of Rugby Single Cask Single Malt Whisky (95 points)

  • Scapegrace Distilling Anthem Single Malt Whisky (95 points)

  • Strange Nature Distilling Premium Gin (95 points)
