Sydney sommelier named Hawke’s Bay Wine Ambassador

Sydney-based sommelier Miroslava “Mimi” Mrazikova has been chosen as the inaugural recipient of the Hawke’s Bay Wine Ambassadorship.

Created in partnership with Sommeliers Australia, the programme is designed to strengthen connections between Hawke’s Bay and the Australian wine trade and build long-term advocacy for the region’s wines.

Mrazikova was selected following a competitive process that began with a Hawke’s Bay Wine trade activation in Melbourne in May, featuring three regional masterclasses and a producer-led walk-around tasting attended by sommeliers, buyers and hospitality professionals from across Australia.

Currently working as a sommelier in Sydney, she has more than eight years of hospitality experience and over three years specialising in wine. Organisers say that her passion for regional storytelling, wine education and producer-driven narratives, combined with her enthusiasm for Hawke’s Bay’s diverse wine styles and subregions, made her a standout candidate.

“Mimi demonstrated a genuine curiosity about Hawke’s Bay, a strong commitment to wine education and a clear vision for sharing our regional story with Australian audiences," says Amy Hopkinson-Styles from Hawke’s Bay’s Halcyon Day Wines.

Her appreciation for the diversity of Hawke’s Bay, from benchmark Chardonnay and red blends through to emerging varieties such as Albariño and Chenin Blanc, aligned strongly with the goals of the programme.”

As part of the Ambassadorship, Mrazikova will travel to Hawke’s Bay in September for a fully hosted programme, including attendance at the internationally recognised Aotearoa New Zealand Chardonnay Symposium, winery visits, vineyard tours and meetings with producers from across the region.

Following her visit, she will continue her role as Ambassador by sharing her experiences through trade and digital channels and hosting a Hawke’s Bay Wine educational tasting in Australia.
