New World reveals Top 50 Wines under $30

A list of 50 wines have been selected from more than 1,000 entrants from New Zealand and around the world for the New World Wine Awards 2025.

A judging panel of independent wine experts led by Chair Jen Parr and Deputy Chair Murry Cook assessed the wines using the internationally recognised 100-point system. (The Top 50 list is at the bottom of this story.)

Champion titles were also awarded to a select few wines, including Champion White Wine for The Hunting Lodge Seasonal Albariño Marlborough 2025; Champion Red Wine for Church Road McDonald Series Syrah 2021; and Champion Sparkling Wine for Lindauer Special Reserve Brut NV.

The judges also highlighted international place-getters Brown Brothers Sparkling Moscato 2024 (Australia), Grande Cuvée 1531 Rosé Crémant de Limoux NV (France), and Taylors Estate Tempranillo 2024 (Australia).

Mountford Estate Blanc Pet Nat NV was hailed as one of the most exciting wines in the 2025 line-up, described as: “A lightly bubbly, unfiltered wine with vibrant citrus, floral notes, and a touch of wild yeast character.” Pet Nat (Pétillant Naturel) is made using an ancient method where wine is bottled before fermentation finishes, creating a natural sparkle without added sugars or yeasts.

“This wine is a total vibe,” said one judge. “It’s fresh, energetic, and a little bit wild, perfect for those who love to explore something different.”

The Top 50 wines will be available in New World stores from this week.
